The grand event of Athens Olympics Torch Relay was inaugurated by the Internaional Olympic Committee member, Yu Zaiqing close to the Great hall of People positioned in the heart of Beijing.
Member of the Standing Committee of Political Bureau, Li Changchin gave the torch to Yu, the Chinese Olympic Committee’s president. Torch was light up by Li from lantern. This torch was brought to Beijng by boarding a Greek chartered plane.
At 9:30, Chen Zhili, Chinese State Councilor, fired gun and then Yu started his 400 meter course. In the Chinese capital, this Olympic Torch relay was eagerly awaited.
Liu Qi, President of BOCOG delivered a speech. In which he stated that, “'The Olympic flame will sow the seeds of peace, friendship and progress in the hearts of the Chinese people, especially among the youth. It will continue to inspire us as we prepare for the 2008 Olympic Games.”

He is a famous NBA star of China. this torch relay will be at its climax when the ceremonial cauldron positioned at Summer Palace will be ignited by Yao.
