The initial phases of Beijing started with the trading towns, which includes tribes in Shandong, Central China, Koreans and Mongols. During the Warring States Period, it was extended and developed considerable. Later, it was called as the Yanjing. This happened during the Liao Dynasty.
But, Genghis Khan destroyed the Yanjing in 1215 AD. In the year 1272, the destroyed state was again established as dadu. The name Dadu stands for “Great Capital”. Khanbalik was another popular name of Dadu. It was Genghis Khan’s grandson, Kublai Khan’s capital.
From the year 1280 to 1300, there was peace, which led to the arrival of foreign travelers via Silk Road. But, in the year 1368, there was a huge revolution because of the Zhu Tuanzhang. This eventually formed the Ming Dynasty. He was also renamed the name of city to Beiping. It means Northern Peace.
